Jay began his journey to The Hartnett Law Firm at Cistercian Preparatory School. Upon graduation he left Dallas for the University of Texas at Austin, where he received his B.B.A. He later returned to Dallas to attend Southern Methodist University’s School of Law. In 1990, he was admitted to the State Bar of Texas and became an Associate at the Hartnett Law Firm.

He became a partner in The Hartnett Law Firm in 1997. Since then Jay has continued to grow in the legal profession. In 2004, Jay was named a “Texas Rising Star” by Thomson Reuters, as one of the best lawyers in Texas under age 40. And from 2007-2008 Jay served as Chairman of the Probate Trusts and Estates Section of the Dallas Bar Association.

Since the beginning of his career Jay has been very involved in the Dallas legal community. He is a member of the Dallas Bar Association and the State Bar of Texas. He is a Founding Lifetime Fellow of the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers Foundation and has maintained a relationship with the DAYL running their flag football program. He is also a starting Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.

When not working, Jay spends quality time with his wife and four children, and is active in sports leagues around the Dallas Metroplex.
